‘Nod’ to expat residence bill

The Parliament approved the Expatriate Residency Bill in its second reading Tuesday. The bill was referred to the government which will disclose details later to pave the way for implementation of the proposal after its publication in the official gazette.

The bill states that any expatriate who enters the country illegally will be imprisoned for not more than three years and fined not more than KD 3,000.

In case they return after deportation, they will be imprisoned for not more than five years and fined not more than KD 5,000.

The original bill stated ‘imprisoned for not less than three years and fined for not less than KD 3,000.’

In case of repeat offence the original stated ‘imprisoned for not less than five years and fined for not less than KD 5,000.’
