February 15, 2014, 8:55 am

Point-to-point traffic surveillance cameras (CCTV) which the Ministry of Interior tested from Dec, 2013 until Feb, 2014 along the Nuwaiseeb Road recorded outstanding successes that guarantee traffic control. In a press release, the Acting Director of Security Information, Public Relations and Moral Guidance Director Colonel Adel Al- Hashash disclosed the implementation of the system was based on the directives of the Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al- Sabah.

He said the minister has implored the officials in charge to take all necessary procedures to maximize security and safety of citizens and expatriates in the country, while the Undersecretary Lt Colonel Sulaiman Al-Fahad is closely monitoring its execution. He declared during the experimentation period - Dec 25-Jan 24, 2014, about 2,502,828 vehicles plied the road.

He noted 13 percent of the vehicles violated traffic codes at the initial stage of experimentation. However, 652,729 vehicles were recorded from both sides of the road in the actual enforcement of the camera operation on Feb 1, and the violations reduced to 3.3 percent.
