December 8, 2014, 9:19 am

"Non-Violence" week kicked off here on Sunday at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Kuwait University to raise public awareness against the negative effects of aggressive behaviors among young adults.

The four-day event is held under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

In an opening speech, Assistant Undersecretary of the Correctional Facilities and Provisions Implementation Maj.Gen. Khaled Al-Deen said that the Ministry of Interior has taken all necessary legal and precautionary measures against instigators of violence in public places, nonetheless, these efforts are futile if they haven't been reinforced by similar actions taken at home and school.

Positive role-modeling is one of the means of lessening the impact of violence, he pointed out, adding that the Ministry of Interior is in contact with many civil and governmental institutions to share the responsibility to cure this social epidemic.

On his part, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Abdulreda Ali Asiri said that the event will shed light on the role played by social services in dealing with adolescents who are prone to delinquency or who show signs of uncontrollable anger. It will also discuss empowering women against all forms of violence, he added.
