Kuwaiti envoy to Jordan involved in crash that killed girl

Reports in Jordan said that a young girl who was injured in a car collision involving the Kuwaiti ambassador to Jordan has died.

Quoting sources at a local hospital, the reports said that Gaida Waleed Yousuf Daghsh, six, was not able to survive her injuries sustained in the accident on the highway near the town of Zarqa.

Kuwaiti and Jordanian reports on Sunday said that Ambassador Hamad Al Duaij was on his way back from the Zaatari refugee camp, 70 kilometres north of the capital Amman, when the accident, involving three cars and a truck, occurred.

According to Kuwaiti daily Al Anba, the truck smashed into the diplomat’s car, forcing it to hit the cars ahead.

The diplomat who was on a humanitarian mission at the camp for Syrians was transferred to a hospital in Amman for treatment. He reportedly sustained a fracture in his hand.

Zaatari, near the Jordanian-Syrian border, is now the world’s second-largest refugee camp with more than 102,000 residents.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have been providing caravans, blankets and other forms of assistance to the refugees to help them with the bitter cold and the challenging conditions at the camp.

Bahrain had built an education compound that included four schools to help the children move forward with their education.
