Parents neglect, weak watch leads to kids ‘waywardness’

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh affirmed that the national manpower covers 17.4 percent of the entire workforce in the country, elaborating that there are 41,000 Kuwaiti employees out of the 2.33 million that accounts for 60 percent of Kuwait population, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Sabeeh disclosed this in a report forwarded to the Parliament’s Finance Committee for redrafting the aspect of the law related to manpower and labor market. She said Kuwait occupies 105th position globally in the area of labor market competency index according to the 2013/2014 global competition report.

The minister stated that male employees cover 75.5 percent of the entire workforce, adding that the average annual growth of Kuwaiti manpower during 2010-2013 fell to 4.3 percent, while 15,700 Kuwaitis entered the labor market during this period.

Meanwhile, a report prepared by the educational zones of Ministry of Education concerning the method of dealing with transvestites stressed the need to allow positive discussions with children to ensure that their ideologies do not change from that of their parents’ generation.

It also stressed the need for applying wisdom, proper guide, and parental control, establishing guidance units and supporting male and female values when dealing with the situation. It emphasized the role of family in resolving the problem, indicating that carefree attitude by the parents, neglect of their children, failure to serve as role models and weak monitoring by the family contribute to the waywardness of youths and lead to their emulation of negative Western habits.

The report insists that audiovisual and print media have contributed to spreading awareness about the phenomenon, adding that the habit could lead to disobedience towards parents in future because ‘children who did not enjoy parental care will not be obedient’.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health will organize a number of health activities including an Open Day which has been organized by the Physical Therapy Department at the Al-Sabah Hospital, Wednesday next, under the title ‘Our Children, Our Responsibility’, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The event which is being held under the auspices of the Minister of Health will also include awareness lectures and different workshops at the lectures hall of the National Bank Hospital. On Oct 28, 2014, the ministry will hold the First Kuwait International Conference for Polio Eradication at the Marriott Hotel at Raya Hall, in addition to the launching of the newborn survey program on Oct 30, 2014 at the Marina Hotel.

The ministry is holding a press conference which will be attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr Khalid Al-Sehlawi on Oct 30, 2014, at the Meetings Venue (big hall) at the Ministry’s General Office to discuss ways of treating acute heart attacks.
