10 specialised clinics to treat Kuwaiti diabetic patients

Dr Mohamed Al-Khashti, Assistant Undersecretary for Private Services at Ministry of Health disclosed that 10 specialized clinics in public and private hospitals will be treating Kuwaiti diabetic patients locally. Dr Al-Khashti said this at the sidelines of an event organized by the health enhancement department to mark the World Diabetes Day recently.

He stressed the decision has been forwarded to the minister for review and that Kuwait occupies ninth place globally and second position in the GCC region in terms of diabetes cases.

He also said that 23.1 percent of the patients are within the range of 20-79 years, indicating 362,000 Kuwaitis are living with diabetes as well as 140,000 non-Kuwaiti patients. He reiterated almost 16 percent of the total healthcare budget is spent on diabetes.
