Secretary General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) Nour Ad-Deen Bouchkouj said Saturday Kuwait succeeding in chairing AIPU towards bolstering inter-Arab parliamentary cooperation, human rights and democracy.

Speaking to KUNA, Bouchkouj said Kuwait has long experience in democratic practice in the Gulf and Middle East regions coupled with a huge space of freedom and openness.
Kuwait's parliamentary experiece is a role model for the genuine democratic practice, he added, in terms of supervising the executive authority.

Constitution of Kuwait was adopted in early 1960, he noted, which contributed to successful presidency of Kuwait of the AIPU last January. The AIPU conference that was held in Kuwait on January 19 2014, said Bouchkouj, contributed to better democracy, human rights and liberties.

The conference, he went on, improved coordination among Arab parliaments in the face of threats against Arab national security. Kuwaiti MP Faisal Al-Shaye chaired the Executive Committee of the AIPU in Marrakech.

The committee members, said Bouchkouj, reiterated support for the Palestinian cause and called for achieving sustainable development. The next committee meeting will be in Jordan next November.
