Cabinet creates standing business panel

The government has decided to set up a permanent committee on the improvement of the business atmosphere in Kuwait.
The committee, which will be chaired by Director General of the Direct Investment Promotion Authority Sheikh Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, is mainly intended to promote and stimulate direct investment in the country.

The decision was made during a weekly cabinet meeting held on Monday at Bayan Palace under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

During the meeting, the ministers listened to a presentation from Sheikh Meshaal on Kuwait's status in a recent business facilitation report issued by the World Bank, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Health Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in news remarks following the meeting.

Sheikh Meshaal stressed that necessary steps should be taken to address the retreat in Kuwait's position in the assessment report by means of reconsidering business-bearing laws and bylaws, the minister said.

The committee comprises the ministers of commerce and industry, electricity and water, and justice, the minister pointed out.
The ministers were then apprised of a recent letter sent to His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah from Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on bilateral friendly relations.

On the occasion of the 34th session of the GCC summit due in Kuwait on Tuesday, the cabinet welcomed the participating Gulf leaders and hoped that the gathering would come up with recommendations and resolutions that would push forward Gulf cooperation and integration and fulfill the expectations and hopes of their people, the cabinet minister said.

The Kuwaiti delegation partaking in the event will be led by His Highness the Amir and comprises His Highness the Crown Prince, His Highness the Prime Minister, and the minister of Amiri Diwan affairs, the deputy premier and foreign minister, the deputy premier and interior minister, the deputy minister of Amiri Diwan affairs Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, the deputy premier and minister of finance, the deputy premier and defense minister and several other ministers.

Afterwards, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah expounded on the outcomes of a recent visit to Kuwait by British Foreign Secretary William Hague, where closer ties between both friendly countries were discussed.

The ministers also reviewed an agreement between Kuwait and Iraq in the field of higher education and scientific research.
The cabinet then considered several political reports on the current Arab and international situations, and congratulated Dubai on winning the EXPO 2020 bid.

It further offered sincere condolence over the death of South Africa's former president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela.
