Citizens' keenness on security and stability would help both the government and parliament to work together for the sake of developing the country, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said on Tuesday.

His Highness the Amir's statement came during his opening speech of the third regular session of the 14th legislative term.

His Highness the Amir said that it was important to laud the cooperative spirit that prevailed recently on the Kuwaiti political scene from both government and parliament, noting that such cooperation helped considerably to recognize Kuwait as a global humanitarian center.

In regards to the welfare of citizens, His Highness Sheikh Sabah showcased his keenness on the subject, saying that it was paramount for government and parliament to work for the betterment of the people's standards of living.

On development in Kuwait, His Highness the Amir stressed the importance of enhancing human resources, noting that it was the nucleus for any plan or progress.

Encouraging the youth to be productive is key for Kuwait's development, said His Highness, who also called on the youth to take responsibility and be up to challenges facing the country.

His Highness, in his address to parliament, also touched on the current global economic situation, indicating that the recent hike in oil prices was due to economic and political shifting on the international arena which will have its negative impact on national economy if nothing was done by parliament or government to counter it.

Touching on social behavior in the country, His Highness the Amir stressed that it was important to face behavior that was in contradiction to social values, adding that negative manners should be rectified through the involvement of educational facilities as well as religious and social institutes.

Members of the government and parliament should both complement each other in their roles as the country's leading figures, said Sheikh Sabah who hoped that such step would help guide Kuwait to the straight path for development.

His Highness the Amir then spoke of the current troubling regional situation and said that was alarming that some nations were disintegrating into chaos due to acts of terrorism and war, adding that the situation required from the people of Kuwait to stand together against mayhem and terrorism.

Kuwait's role in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has been up to standard, said His Highness the Amir, noting that Gulf nations, through cooperation, were capable in facing adversaries and challenges.
