FBC marks 40th tourney awards night and remembers hurricane victims

The Filipino Badminton Committee in Kuwait (FBC) held its awards night to mark the end of its 39th Tournament “President’s Cup” and 40th Tournament “Chairman’s Cup” at the Holiday Inn, Salmiya. Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Lamberto Monsanto graced the occasion with Consul General Atty. Raul Dado and Labor Attaché Cesar Chavez. FBC Super Nova-mber - A night to Remember highlighted recognition of winners from the tournaments and offered commitment to aid the victims of typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines.

The event commenced with an invocation by Alyne Thomas, The Philippine National Anthem followed by songs from Rob Martinez and Dr. Kris De Los Santos. FBC President Feliz Besanez welcomed all the guests and thanked all those who rendered support to the group with special mention on Qatar Airways for generously donating a return ticket to Philippines, which will be up for auction and fund raised will be donated to the victims of the hurricane.

Among the presentations staged included a remarkable dance number from the Tumble Ladies” composed of Gwendolyn Tito, Grethel Ramas and Ferrylyn Reyes and Moo Elkhayat wtih Janice Capili gyrated to a feet stomping dance number.

Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Lamberto Monsanto delivered an inspirational speech praising the strong spirits Filipinos were born with and lauding Kuwait and His Highness the Amir for the generous $10 million donation for the typhoon victims.

 “I would like to congratulate FBC for its zeal in community service and helping Filipinos in Kuwait ” stated Monsanto. He also outlined the embassy’s strong commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Kuwait as exemplified by the embassy’s tireless efforts in rescuing distressed OFWs.

Ambassador Monsanto, Consul General Dado, Labor Attaché Chavez and Qatar Airways Representative El Nazer with Besanez and Umandap awarded the prizes and recognition plaques to the winners.

To highlight of the night was the FBC Talent Quest 2013 where FBC members showcased various talents vying for the major prizes. Kris Zarcal who played the guitar and sang bagged the top prize followed Mariz Tambis and Janice Capili who took the second prize and Grethel Ramas and Ryan Buenaventura who performed an interpretative dance won the third prize. Winners in the talent quest received trophies and DVD players. Special awards were also given during the night such as the Female Star of the Night that went to Leanerene Sevilla, Male Star of the Night Ryan Buenaventura, Party King and Queen of the Night Vinod and Alyne Thomas.

Umandap and Besanez thanked everyone who came to join FBC’s special night.
