FM stresses key role of different media outlets amid 'critical' circumstances

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah underlined the important role of different media outlets amid "exceptional and critical circumstances" facing the region which needs concerted efforts to overcome these circumstances.

This came on Sunday during a meeting with KUNA's Board Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Adnan Khalifa Al-Rashed and members of the Board of Directors Mohammad Abdulmohsen Al-Awwash, Ambassador Saleh Salem Al-Loughani and Kholoud Redha Al-Faili at the headquarters of the ministry.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled stressed the key role of media people in addressing issues pertaining to local affairs and how to deal with them professionally, and also their role in preventing any body trying to incite sectarianism and hatred through media.

He underscored the significance of coping with the latest technology in media, as a result of growing electronic revolution which plays the main role in transmitting and publishing information.
The minister said new media requires implementing an optimal use of the latest technology to compete with other international news agencies in this regard.

He called for exerting further efforts to formulate an integrated strategy for promoting cooperation among GCC member states' media bodies to cope with accelerated events affecting the region, underlining the importance of delivering the message of moderation of Kuwait, which has been become a main pillar of its policy.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the current political situations, and their regional and international repercussions, and major challenges facing the region amid continued international and regional changes.

"Media has a complementary role of diplomacy," he said. Meanwhile, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij lauded efforts of Foreign Ministry and its constant keenness on communicating with KUNA and its overseas offices, saying KUNA and its offices are an arm of the ministry.

The meeting was attended by assistant foreign minister for first deputy premier and foreign minister's office ambassador Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Deputy Director General of Editorial Sector Affairs of KUNA Saad Al-Ali, Deputy Director General for Financial, Administrative and Communications Affairs Abdulhamid Malak and a number of senior officials of Foreign Ministry.
