Govt efforts to arrest illegal expats end in failure: report

Official statistics revealed the number of residency law violators has increased four times in four years, indicating the number has risen from 3,549 since 2010 to 16,288 in 2013 and all efforts by government to confront the phenomenon has failed, reports Al- Qabas daily.

Statistics confirmed that 300,000 residencies were approved during the same period, with approximately 5 percent increase in applications, in addition to 2.385 million residencies - including 500,000 family residencies.

It also showed that most residency law violators are domestic workers, indicating the sponsors are contributing to the phenomenon by not reporting absconders.
