Minister of State for Housing Affairs Yasser Abul announced Wednesday that the Ministry distributed 12,000 housing units to citizenry in the fiscal year 2014/2015 and is planning to distribute another 12,000 residential units in the FY 2015/2016.

The ministry is following studied steps to help citizens in acquiring a house, Abul said, noting that his ministry is currently seeking development of a number of measures and systems for housing institutions in the country, including the Public Authority for Housing Welfare and Kuwait Credit Bank, in order to formulate a clear vision on housing issue in Kuwait and find ways to solve these issues.

Meanwhile, MP Rakan Al-Nisf pointed out that the number of Kuwaiti families reached 215,000 by 2013, an increase of 100,000 families in 10 years, while the number of available residential units at that time was only 150,000.

"We, at the National Assembly, have met with all specialists in the housing issue, particularly organizers of 'Waiting for a House' campaign, which we benefited from its efforts since its formation and until now," the Kuwaiti lawmaker said, adding that the main problem with the housing issue is "scarcity" of residential units compared to large numbers of housing requests that caused rise in prices.
