The first phase of Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery Sulphur Handling Facilities Project (SHFP) - revamp and new - has been operated, the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) said on Tuesday.

The operation featured the first export shipment of sulfur granules from Mina Al-Ahmadi's Pier 30, on the vessel LADY AMNA, capacity of 32,000 tons, KNPC's CEO Mohammad Al-Mutairi.

Al-Mutairi added that the first phase includes operating four reservoirs with total capacity of 18,820 metric tons, and five sulfur granules units with production of 5,000 metric tons daily.

In addition, there is a reservoir for granules, 14,5000 tons, and an independent solid sulphur pier for 60,000 deadweight (DWT) ships, he noted.

The second phase, totally revamping the existing sulphur processing facilities, will be completed by December 2019, the CEO explained said.
