Leading Kuwait internet provider QualityNet has confirmed the start of “small services” in the UK and France as it steers its international expansion.

QualityNet deputy CEO, Mohammed Al Nusif, said after expanding its services into Bahrain about three years ago, it was now also operating in Iraq.

“We started in the region,” Al Nusif told Arabian Business after collecting the Internet Service Provider of the Year prize at the Arabian Business Kuwait awards on Sunday.

“Internationally, we just started our small service in the UK and Paris. So, we’re almost there.

“We’re aiming to have a partnership with international players to have co-branding with our partners.”

While he gave no further details about the new partnerships, Al Nusif said the company had reached its goal of becoming Kuwait’s number one internet provider.

He said the company, which was created in 1998, counted the Kuwaiti Government among its clients. However it also catered for the private sector.

“We opened our services internationally two or three years ago and we made it to be a regional player. We are now going for the international,” he said.

Al Nusif said the company generated $100m in revenue last year.

“We’re doing great,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti telco Zain has hinted at the future rollout of new technology after spearheading with the UAE’s Etisalat the launch of 4G high-speed Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the Middle East.

“We are planning lots of new ideas and lots of innovative technology which we will bring into our market in the very near future,” Terek Belghith, group manager strategy and business development, told Arabian Business on the sidelines of the awards.

He added:  “The last year we have seen a very big growth, especially with our launch of the new LTE. We were among the first in the world and the first in the Middle East with Etisalat in the Emirates to launch that service and I think this is a great step forward with that technology.

“One of our main strengths at Zain is we are always an innovative company. We are very proud that we are having a lot of new ideas and a lot of things coming in the road.”

Zain was awarded Telecoms Company of the Year at the awards.
