Kuwait accuses man of burning mosques

A man accused of setting fire to two mosques in Kuwait has been apprehended by authorities, it was reported.

The police criminal investigations unit in Hawalli governorate managed to apprehend the 20-year old, who was named as Ali Jaber Salman, state news agency KUNA reported.

There were no casualties reported as a result of the alleged incident.

Salman is accused of setting fire to Al-Muhanna and Al-Khanna mosques in the coastal area of Salmiyah, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.

The statement also said the man was a non-Kuwaiti, has a criminal record and is a drug addict.

He was subject to several criminal cases brought against him, the Interior Ministry said.

The statement, reported by KUNA, said the man had confessed to carrying out the crime.

It said investigations continued into revealing the circumstances behind the "atrocious" crime.
