"Cabinet adopts decree inviting voters to elect members of the National Assembly on 27.07.2013,” a short statement released on the government media website KUNA says.

A fresh election had to be called after the Constitutional Court ruled last week that the December 1, 2012 poll was null and void.

It was due to release its legal reasoning on Wednesday. No details have yet been made public.

It will be the fifth election in as many years in the small Gulf state, which has suffered ongoing political instability despite being the most democratic state in the Gulf.

Minister of State and Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said a new parliament would be elected despite calls for the 2009 assembly to be reinstaed.
