Kuwait faces Canada in American Football U-19 World Championship

Kuwait's hosting of the American Football U-19 World Championship, due to kick start tomorrow, aims at encouraging Kuwaiti youth play this challenging game as well as boosting the level of the game in the country, an official said Sunday.

Sheikh Mishal Talal Al-Sabah, Vice-President of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) said Kuwait U-19 American Football team would be competing against the world's seven toughest teams on their own pitch.

Sheikh Mishal, also member of Kuwait's Rugby and American Football Committee, told KUNA the Kuwaiti players would largely benefit from playing against the world's elite American Football athletes.

He said Kuwait would start the tournament with a clash against defending champion, Canada. "The Kuwaiti players who are well prepared for the championship will do their best before the strong Canadian team," he added.

Sheikh Mishal commended the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of the World Championship, which would feature participation of Austria, France, the US, Japan, Mexico and Germany.

Every American football team consists of 11 players. The two teams play in a 120-yard-long and 53.33-yard-wide pitch with goalposts at each end. Most points are scored by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the opponentØ¢’s goalposts for a field goal.
