Kuwait increases Al Zour refinery budget to $16 billion
July 22, 2015, 12:13 pm

Kuwait's Al-Zour refinery budget has been increased by $2.88 billion (871 million Kuwaiti dinars) to $16bn (4.871 billion), Kuwait's oil minister said on Tuesday.

Ali Saleh al-Omair said the increase was approved by Kuwait's Supreme Petroleum Council because of the importance of the project, the state news agency Kuna said.

The 615,000 barrels per day oil refinery, originally planned more than a decade ago, would be the biggest in the Middle East, but the project has been repeatedly delayed by bureaucratic and political issues, including tensions between Kuwait's parliament and cabinet.
