State of Kuwait shares Saudi Arabia's "frustration and pain" over UN Security Council's failure to live up to its responsibility to preserving international peace and security, a senior official said Sunday.

We appreciate and respect the view of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is a founding member of the UN and has a leading and affective role in our international and regional causes," Foreign U Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah told reporters on sidelines of a reception held by the Spanish Embassy on occasion of the national day.

He said UNSC "did not do anything" for long years regarding the Palestinian cause and suffering of the Palestinian people and the bloody conflict in Syria "where we see the Security Council unable to offer anything to stop the bloodbath in Syria." Saudi Arabia's not accepting the non-permanent UNSC membership is a message to the world "and it ... succeeded in conveying the message," said Al-Jarallah.

He said Kuwait and Arab ambassadors in New York are trying to convince Saudi Arabia to reverse its decision.
Al-Jarallah hoped Saudi Arabia would accept the UNSC membership "because it is an influential country and will have a concrete role in the Security Council for the next two years." Asked about the time of the second donors' conference for Syria, Al-Jarallah said the meeting would be held early next year and the UN hoped to see pledges amounting to USD four billion.

On the visit of UN-Arab League special representative to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi to Kuwait, Al-Jarallah said "he will hear the view of the State of Kuwait during his meeting with His Highness the Amir." Al-Jarallah, meanwhile, said there was "big progress" regarding talks between Kuwait and the US over the Kuwaiti prisoners in Guantanamo.

The foreign undersecretary, on the other hand, praised the "distinguished" relations between Kuwait and Spain.
