Kuwait and the US signed a total seven agreements on the fringes of His Highness the Amir's visit to Washington where he met President Donald Trump, Kuwait's foreign minister said on Friday.

First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said the agreements covered the fields of counter-terrorism, customs, petroleum, higher education, scientific research, investment, and electricity and water.

The agreements, which also include Memorandums of Understanding, follow another 16, bringing the total to 23 slashed between the two countries, said the minister, alongside US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

His comments came in a speech at the Second US-Kuwait Strategic Dialogue in Washington, also attended by 10 Kuwaiti state bodies.

They included the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Direct Investment Promotion Authority, Kuwait Investment Authority, Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority, National Security Bureau, General Administration of Customs and the ministries of Interior, Defense and Higher Education.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled praised the scope and diversity of Kuwaiti representation at the talks, which he said, reflects the importance Kuwait attaches to the event.

On security cooperation, arrangements are being made for agreements on intelligence sharing in relation to counter-terrorism efforts and addressing security shortfalls at Kuwait International Airport - which has reached "advanced stages," he said.

He explained these consist of cooperation on the implementation of security standards and establishment of a US customs and border security office at Kuwait's new soon-to-be-completed airport, and a focus on cybersecurity as a main pillar for cooperation in the future.

Meanwhile, he said Kuwait looks forward to hosting next year a continuation of the US-Kuwait Economic Forum, which was launched on Thursday.

He revealed that Kuwaiti investments in the US are worth over USD 400 billion, while trade volume between both countries reached USD 4 billion by mid-2017. The minister expressed Kuwait's hope efforts would be made to double this number in the future.

Over 10,000 Kuwaitis currently receive higher education across colleges and universities in the US, and the minister also expressed Kuwait's keenness to increase this figure.

Furthermore, he took the opportunity to praise Trump's reiteration of US commitment to the security of Kuwait, and the US-led coalition's liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation in 1991.
He also expressed "sincere heartfelt condolences" over the lives lost and severe material damage caused by Hurricane in the southern state of Texas.
