A court of cassation in Kuwait has upheld a four-year jail term against a Kuwaiti activist who wrote offensive comments about a number of top judges on Twitter, reported Kuwait Times. The defendant, Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Fadhel, was sued by three judges on charges of defamation. He was first given the sentence by the criminal court in October 2014.

The sentence was confirmed by the appeals court confirmed in February last year and was upheld yesterday by the cassation court, whose rulings are final.

The court also asked Al-Fadhel to pay $17,000 in compensation to the judges to help them seek larger damages from civil courts.
