Landmark Group announces winners of Art Olympiad X

Landmark Group, one of the largest retail and hospitality organizations in the Middle East, Africa and India, awarded the artistic talents of eight students at the tenth Art Olympiad 2018. The event saw the participation of 160 students from 16 schools of repute across Kuwait. The atmosphere was abuzz with excitement as the names of winners were announced. The Art Olympiad, which recognizes the outstanding creative talents of students, received an overwhelming response.

The paintings were judged by Walid Kanafani, President – IAA Kuwait Chapter and General Manager, Wavemaker Kuwait and Zeina Mokaddam, Managing Director at PH7 Group. A total of eight winners were selected at the end of the Olympiad on the basis of creativity, workmanship, overall impression and relevance to the Theme. The paintings of the young talented artists allowed the judges to choose the best of the best. There were also two special prizes, one for the most colorful painting, which was won by Liya Ance George (9-11 years) - Fahaheel Al-Watanieh Indian Private School and the most creative painting won by Sarah Hussien Al Mutairy (12-14 years)- Canadian Bilingual School.

This year’s competition themes which the students could select from were; Dream City, Cartoon Character, Children at play etc. for the 9-11 years category. For the 12-14 years category it was Future Kuwait, draw your dream Home, A place you want to go etc. All themes brought out the unique talents and skills of the participants.

The winners of the 9-11 years category were:

• First Prize: Aileen Seo- International British School
• Second Prize: Mridula Pallissery Ravindran- Indian Educational School
• Third Prize: Leon Marian Prasad- Carmel School

The winners of the 12-14 years category were:

• First Prize: Minjae Son - Kuwait English School
• Second Prize: Hala Hassanein - Kuwait English School
• Third Prize: Reeda Shimaz Huda - Fahaheel Al-Watanieh Indian Private School

Landmark Group organized the event for the tenth consecutive year, as it falls in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy to uplift the capabilities and skills of youth in Kuwait. The event is seen as a grooming platform for these students by helping them encourage their creativity and their innovative ability through art.

Saibal Basu, Chief Operating Officer of Landmark Group Kuwait, said, “My heartiest congratulations to the winners, I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the rest of the talented students who participated in this competition. Their talent is a reflection of their hard work and artistic vision which impress us with their outlook towards things around them. Once again, we are proud and excited to hold the competition year after year and are continually amazed by the ability our young students have. Every year the Olympiad proves to be a great accomplishment; it only gets bigger and better.”

Last but not the least I thank the teachers for their efforts and for encouraging such talents. With such an overwhelming response we are definitely looking forward to preparing for the Eleventh Art Olympiad next year,” he added. 

The participating schools for this year’s Olympiad were: The English School Salmiya, Fahaheel Al Watanieh Indian Private School, Indian Educational School, Indian Learners Own Academy, Canadian Bilingual School, Indian English Academy School, Indian Central School, Al-Nibras International Bilingual School, The English School Fahaheel, Kuwait English School, Carmel School, British School of Kuwait, Dasman Bilingual School, Kuwait National English School, International British School and American Creativity Academy- Salmiya Girls Campus.

Landmark Group is always keen on maintaining an excellent rapport and creating awareness about relevant issues among the youth with constant activities and events. Children were provided with a craft pack that included a drawing sheet and a variety of art materials such as paints, pencils and crayons.

The winners received a prize, certificates and trophies. The schools were given a plaque of appreciation. All students who participated in the Olympiad were provided with gifts and participating certificates.
