The National Assembly on Wednesday endorsed unanimously a bill on protecting the rights of children. In their explanatory memo, the lawmakers asserted that the family is the basic unit of society and it plays a crucial role in protecting all aspects of the life of the child including his health, his education, and his psychological well-being.

The bill defines a child as one who is under the age of 18 and notes the status of children with special needs, stressing their rights in society. The bill also stipulates means of protecting children from all sorts of abuse and lays out legislative measures to redress their grievances in such cases. On a different note, the lawmakers approved unanimously a draft law on organizing the profession of veterinary medicine in the GCC states.
