MPs okay child benefit hike to KD 65
March 31, 2014, 9:15 am

The National Assembly (parliament) committee on financial and economic affairs has given the thumbs up to an overture suggesting an increase in child benefit from KD 50 to KD 65 per child.

The increase in child benefit, which can be given to seven children only, will cost the Stat a total of KD 83 million, MP Mohammad Al-Jabri, the rapporteur of the parliamentary committee, told reporters following a committee session held on Sunday.

He commended this hike suggestion as the best, arguing that the other proposal aiming to raise child benefit up to KD 75 per child will cost KD 127 million.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary committee on legislative and legal affairs has overwhelmingly approved a bill to revise the unemployment insurance legislation, together with another draft law authorizing a standardization and government performance follow-up agency.
