Ministry starts vaccinating pilgrims at 35 health centers

 Ministry of Health this week started vaccinating pilgrims at 35 health centers in all health zones.

Sources said the ministry will provide nearly 65,000 vaccinations of which 25,000 vaccinations will be for seasonal flu and meningitis and 15,000 for pneumococcal.

The sources explained that the ministry has categorized the pilgrims for granting them vaccinations.

Some categories will be given higher priority such as those who are suffering from chronic heart and lung diseases including asthma, lack immunity, suffering from cancer and are undergoing treatment, underwent organ transplant operations, are diabetic and taking insulin shots particularly those above 50 years of age and undergoing continuous cortisone treatment.

They indicated that the pilgrims should be vaccinated 10 days before they travel, which will be repeated annually based on the decisions issued in this regard.

The sources said Ministry of Health has requested the medical centers in charge of vaccinating the pilgrims to submit weekly statistics either as a report or via telephone regarding the number of vaccinated pilgrims, the vaccinations provided and the remaining stock of vaccinations.

eanwhile, Ministry of Health is planning to invite a number of physicians from international medical centers to visit the ministry’s hospitals, reports Al-Rai daily. Director of Public Relations and Media Department of Ministry of Health Faisal Al-Dousari said the consultant doctors will be from various countries such as Egypt, Canada, Britain, Greece, Italy and South Africa and of various specializations such as plastic surgery, blood treatment, chemical remedies, neurological surgeries and otolaryngology.

He said the plan to host the consultant doctors is aimed to achieve scientific and professional coordination with distinguished international medical universities and centers, to train the doctors of the ministry, exchange experiences and to get information about the latest techniques for treating critical and complicated cases of different categories.
