MoE takes steps to tackle spread of drugs in schools

Following news reports that the phenomenon of drug consumption is becoming widespread inside government and private schools, the Ministry of Education has decided to form a committee to study this issue and the influence this phenomenon has on the minds of the students, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, the Ministry of Education is coordination with the Ministry of Interior to prevent the spread of this phenomenon and bring to book the traffickers of this poison.

A reliable source told the daily drug traffickers were remarkably active during the last scholastic year and students who were caught in possession of drug pills have reportedly said it is the students themselves who are involved in this activity.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Mariam Al-Wateed told the daily the task of the committee will be to promote awareness among the youths on the hazards of drug consumption and staying away from what she called ‘bad’ friends.

She also said the committee will have to submit a monthly report to the Minister of Education on the accomplishments of the committee and the final report to be submitted by November 30 next.

Women, men among 23 beggars arrested

Personnel from the General Immigration Department over the past few days have arrested 23 people of various nationalities for begging for alms, reports Al-Anba daily.

Sixteen of those arrested are women and seven men. The daily added, most of them were picket at commercial malls and near mosques. They have been referred to the deportation center.
