Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Friday reiterated the State's respect of all religions, and keenness on providing a climate of religious tolerance and freedom within the framework of law and public morals.

"Kuwait is the country of coexistence and toleration," Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid stressed during a tour of churches and other Christian places of worship to inspect security and traffic measures for New Year celebrations.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid underscored eagerness on the protection, security and safety of all people in Kuwait who respect laws, regulations and customs and traditions "that bind citizens and expats in single fiber," the ministry's Security Information Department said in a statement.

It added that the minister urged provision of security and peacefulness for the Christian sects in the country. Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid was briefed by the security field and traffic commanders on the preventive plans for control, quick response and abilities to move and other measures adopted during such occasions.

He was also informed of commitment by leaders of churches and Christian sects to the preventive instructions and guidelines and precautionary measures previously announced and reiterated by the ministry and security bodies.

Meanwhile, leaders of churches and Christian sects as well as many expats have highly appreciated the State of Kuwait and the sincere efforts "around the clock" by the Interior Minister and security bodies during all occasions, which allows followers of all faiths to practise their rituals in an atmosphere of freedom and tolerance.
