Panel approves draft law for increasing litigants’ legal fees in court

Parliament’s legislative Committee has approved a draft law for increasing the legal fees for all litigants in the court by 4.5 percent for amounts less than KD 20,000 and by 2.5 percent for amounts equal to or higher than KD 20,000.

The committee also approved increasing the fees for urgent costs to KD 30 and cases pending at the Court of First Instance to up to KD 50 for cases that are not financial defined in addition to KD 5 for alerts.

The first article of the draft law which is expected to be approved in the session of July 3, states that the draft law on judiciary independence will be replacing articles 6, 7, 18 and 19 of law No 17/1973. The amended articles 6 and 7 state that the above mentioned increase in fees will apply while KD 100 will be fees for bankrupt cases.
