The National Assembly (parliament) Committee on Financial and Economic Affairs has given thumbs up to a couple of overtures purposed to boost the monthly child benefit from KD 50 to KD 75 and the monthly rent allowance from KD 150 to KD 250.

Emerging from the meeting, the rapporteur of the committee, Mohammad Al-Jabri, told reporters that the new KD-75 monthly child benefit would apply to seven children only, with the annual cost totaling KD 270 million.

The annual total cost of the monthly rent allowance worth KD 250 amounts to KD 142 million, he remarked. A KD equals USD 3.533.
On a suggestion to raise the housing loan from KD 70,000 to KD 100,000, the MP said although the current loan cannot meet the citizen's building needs, it is so uneasy to approve a fresh hike so as to fend off a looming housing price rise.

But, Al-Jabri added that the parliamentary committee would work out a suggestion to control any housing rise in the future in order to preclude any side effects on citizens.
Another proposal to boost military personnel's pays was put on the back burner for more deliberations with state bodies concerned, he pointed out.
