At a special session today, the National Assembly approved the resignations of five lawmakers: Riyad Al-Adsani, Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Kanderi, Dr. Hussein Al-Guaian, Ali Al-Rashed, and Safa'a Al-Hashem.

In a statement before MPs voted for or against the resignations, Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim told his colleagues that he was able to contact four of the resignees to attempt to dissuade them from resigning but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the Assembly agreed to advance the date of the sessions scheduled for May 27 and May 28 to next Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss, among other things, the subject of diversification of the national economy.

As early as two weeks ago, a number of MPs tendered their resignations and since then there were attempt to try to make them change their minds. Today's vote to accept their resignations puts the whole volatile matter to rest.
