The Security Media Department in the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Electronic Crimes Section at the General Criminal Investigation Department, has launched a media awareness campaign to combat electronic crimes and to warn the public about freebooters and hackers.

In a press statement after launching the campaign recently, acting Director of Public Relations, Moral Guidance and Security Media departments Brigadier Adel Al- Hashash revealed the number of electronic crimes has been increasing at an alarming rate. He said those who commit such crimes do so in a professional manner due to the emergence of organized international gangs operating overseas.

He explained the campaign is aimed at raising public awareness on the issue through various media tools like the social networking sites and brochures which are distributed in different governmental bodies. He advised the public to verify the sources of messages they receive before giving personal details and refrain from logging on to suspicious or unknown websites. He affirmed the department is taking all the necessary measures to address the issue and it is always ready to receive reports on electronic crimes.
