Two toddlers who fled their home in Kuwait allegedly to avoid ill treatment have been reunited with their father.

Fawzia, six, and her brother, Maqbul, two, went missing on Saturday amid concerns that they had been harmed.

Their parents and the police looked for them for hours, but were unable to locate them. Their pictures were published in the local media.

A Kuwaiti national walking through a park in Abu Halifa was shocked to see the two children walking without any supervision and called the police.

During the probe, Fawzia said that the two siblings opted to leave their home following the relentless mistreatment by their stepmother, local Arabic daily Al Rai reported on Tuesday.

She added that the pair last year attempted to run away, but were taken back to their father.

Sources told the daily that the sister and brother begged food from people who visited the park to sustain themselves.

They reportedly slept in the private gardens of homes in the area.

The girl’s statements are being checked by the police, the sources said.
