June 27, 2015, 9:12 am
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is taking part in organizing the grand funeral for the martyrs who have fallen in the Friday blast that ripped through Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque in downtown Kuwait.
Dr. Matar Al-Mutairi, the undersecretary, said in a statement that the ministry's staff and workers would take part in the preparations for the funeral at the Grand Mosque, for men, and Al-Mailam Hall in Al-Udailiah District, for women. Dr. Al-Mutairi added that he is masterminding a campaign, in cooperation with the Cooperatives Union, to assist the blood bank in terms of logistics.
Scores of citizens and residents, fasting during the Holy Month Ramadan, hurriedly donated their blood in the aftermath of the noon blast that ripped through the mosque, which was packed with some 2,000 worshippers. The explosion claimed 27 lives and left 227 of the worshippers wounded.
Meanwhile, the popular cafes management declared cancelling "Girgiaan" celebrations for three days due to the distressing event.
Grigiaan is a traditional Kuwaiti celebration, observed during the fasting month of Ramadan. Festivities involve children in particular.
