The UN is expected next month to declare Kuwait as an “international humanitarian centre” and HH the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah as a “humanitarian leader”, Minister of Information Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al Humoud Al Sabah said in a statement carried by state media agency KUNA.

Sheikh Salman said Kuwait’s humanitarian efforts were significant in building and development, as well as in supporting scientific research and human investment.

He pointed to the country’s Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFSED), Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS), in addition to other relief and youth voluntary institutions and philanthropic works.

He also highlighted Kuwaiti efforts in assisting conflict-affected countries, including in Syria, where agreed to host the UN’s first and second donors’ conference.

It also was one of the staunchest supporters of the Palestinian plight. “Kuwait’s supportive role of humanitarian and developmental work has contributed in bolstering its status in the international community, which always backed Kuwait in various circumstances,” Sheikh Salman said in the statement.
