April 23, 2014, 12:19 am
Vice chairman of the Indian Community School, Kuwait (ICSK) Rajan Daniel, who remained on the board for more than a decade, was voted out of the board of trustees of the school on Monday at its annual meeting. Dr Narayan Nampoory was the other member who also had to go out of the board following the election.
According to ICSK constitution, two board members are expected to retire voluntarily every year before April 21. No board member was ready to retire voluntarily before the stipulated date prompting the election, sources said. In the election, Daniel and Dr Nampoory garnered the highest number of negatives votes – nine each paving the way for their exit, the sources added. The election was held in the presence of Indian Embassy Second Secretary (Community and Education) J S Danky. Daniel took over as the secretary of the ICSK board of trustees in 1999 following a revamp of the school administration after a corruption scandal rocked the school — formerly called Indian School. He continued as secretary for several years and later became the vice-chairman.
The ICSK board of trustees consists of 12 members including chairman, vice chairman, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer, two ex-students members and five members of the Parent Advisory Council. In addition, a five-member Council of Elders is also there to advise the board. The previous board consisted of Ashok Kalra (chairman), Rajan Daniel (vice chairman), Vijayan Karayil (secretary), Kamalesh Kumari (joint secretary), Dinesh Kammath (treasurer) and members Dr Narayan Nampoory, C Sunil Kumar, Bobby A Mathew, Dr S Neelamani, Dr C G Suresh, Sherin Thomas Mani and Nasar Mashoor Thangal, Ex-student members Saji Varghese and Benoy Thomas, nominated parent member A V Shamsuddeen, PAC members Ajay George, George Mathew, K V Nizar and Mathews C John. In accordance with the constitution, a new board must be constituted by May with the induction of two new members, four PAC representatives and one nominated parent representative
