January 23, 2014, 10:25 am

Ministry of Interior has denied the information that some newspapers and social networking websites have been circulating regarding increased restrictions on issuance of visit visas during the Hala February festival this year, reports Al- Wasat daily.

The Director of Public Relations Department and Acting Director of Information Security Department Colonel Adel Al- Hashash insisted that the reports in this regard are false, stressing that visit visas will be granted based on the usual laws and procedures.

Meanwhile, Al-Hashash has said the Ministry of Interior with the concerned departments started the implementation of strategic security plan to resolve the situation of residency law violators and marginalized workers, reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Hashash said plan is in line with the country’s commitment to international human rights conventions and charters to apply justice and equality by granting the rights of laborers according to rules and regulations. He affirmed that the ministry seeks to receive complaints to rectify the cases of laborers whose sponsors are partly to blame for their illegal status, indicating the issue will be resolved in coordination with the Committee for Resolving Disputes in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor.

In another development, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will suspend all applications related to transfer of commercial visit visas to work permits for one month for the concerned committee to review the terms and regulations for transferring commercial visit visa to work permit under the private sector labor law, adding the committee will submit its recommendations to the sector minister, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

AbdulMohsin Al-Mutairi, the ministry undersecretary made the disclosure at the sidelines of the meeting of GCC Ministers of Social Affairs and Labor, noting the sector in the last few days has dealt with the shortage of employees in various labor departments, particularly the Capital and Hawalli governorates. Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh has issued a decision to suspend the execution of the ministerial decision 158/2013 regarding the deposing of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sulaibikhat and Doha cooperative societies, reports Al- Seyassah daily.

Meanwhile, she also gave instructions to form a legal and technical committee for tackling the illegal visa-trading case, and the related problems and complaints, reports Al- Qabas daily quoting a reliable source.

He said the committee has been given one month to collect information and evidences about the negative phenomenon of visa trading prevalent for the past few years in the country in order to rectify the legal statuses of the expatriates and the employers in line with their rights. He indicated that this phenomenon is not a new problem but has been prevalent in the country for a long time, stressing the need to apply law firmly to eliminate the phenomenon.
