An extensive investigation is believed to be underway to identify the arsonist who set fire to a fleet of cars, including a Porsche, an Audi and a mini-bus, in Salmiya recently. The police suspect that the fire, which totally gutted the vehicles, was reportedly started using a bottle of gasoline that was found abandoned nearby.

Authorities have identified the owner of the expensive cars as a Syrian who is currently out of the country.

On a related note, the police have still not closed the file on another arson attempt of a bank building in Sabhan that occurred at the start of the year. According to sources at the ministry of interior the incident was reported to the Sabah Al-Salem police station on 15 January by the bank’s lawyer. The fire, which did not cause any injuries, is still being investigated, said the source.
