Citizens living in Block 12 of Salmiya have approached top officials in Kuwait Municipality with a grievance against the influx of large number of bachelors into residential buildings in the area. The complainants said they had filed a complaint with authorities in Hawally Municipality on 30 September, but so far there has been no monitoring or follow-up on the law limiting the presence of bachelors in family residential areas.

They pointed out that real estate owners in this area have been taking advantage of the municipality’s laxness by partitioning existing rooms in building into 3×3 square meter spaces and renting it out to bachelors. Residents said this was in direct violation of the law on allowing bachelors to reside in family areas.

The citizens indicated that they have been living in the area for 50 years, and that they have been living quietly and peacefully, but the presence of large number of bachelors in the area has led to severe inconvenience to them. They complained that bachelors were roaming the streets in inappropriate clothes and parking their vehicles in front of residences and had no respect for cleanliness and sanctity of the place they live in.

They urged the authorities to immediately evict the bachelors in line with the decision of the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Fahd Al-Shula, who had formed a committee to evict bachelors from private and model housing areas.

They warned that if no action was taken it could lead to a direct confrontation between the bachelors and the citizens.
