Commerce Ministry bans importation of containers with carcinogenic material

Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Services Khaled Al­Roudhan issued a banning order to the importation of thermosetting containers containing “asbestos” carcinogenic material.

The ban, to be implemented early next year, aims to protect public health and consumer safety with urgent precautions, the Ministry said in a press release on Saturday. The decision includes banning the importation of all materials used in the production of asbestos, including containers for keeping cold and hot beverages and all contact with food, it added.

The statement noted the ministry will start of an inspection campaign to withdraw random samples from local markets to ensure that they are free of any substances harmful to consumer health.
