Construction equipment and material worth over KD390,000 were reported stolen from a construction site where the project had been stalled for more than two years.

The construction site in Jahra governorate was a project for the Ministry of Interior, but more than two years ago the ministry ordered the construction company to stop work on the project, as the contractor failed to obtain a change order. The ministry had compelled the contractor to leave all his equipment and material behind at the site pending a final court decision.

Experts from the Ministry of Justice who were asked to visit the site last week to ascertain the condition of the equipment and material left behind, reported the theft. The contractor claimed that goods missing include 35 construction materials, site installations and electrical appliances, in addition to stealing tons of iron, wood, and machinery.

Ministry of Interior officials who accompanied the Justice ministry experts said that the material could not have been taken out except by using huge cranes and entering through the main gate and using heavy-duty lorries and trailer trucks to transport the material.
