Interior Ministry in Saudi Arabia has issued a statement that the fire which erupted from drone attacks on two Saudi Aramco oil installations in Abqaiq and Khurais provinces have been brought under control.

While the precise venues and extent of damage were not revealed, a Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman confined his statement to admitting that an attack did take place and that the fires which ensued have since been extinguished by Aramco personnel.

Abqaiq, 60 km southwest of Dhahran in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, contains the world’s largest oil processing plant. Khurais, 190 km further southwest, contains the country’s second largest oilfield. It will be remembered that security forces were able to successfully foil an attack on Abqaiq by Al Qaeda operatives in 2006.
