Kuwait National Seismic Network (KNSN) said Monday that tremors felt in some areas of Kuwait earlier today were caused by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in western region of neighboring Iran.

Head of KNSN Dr. Abdullah Al-Enizi indicated that the earthquake in Iran, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, happened around 256 kilometers from Kuwait.

Some of the testimonials from different people share their experiences of the earthquake. A resident in Hawally felt his bed shake and observed that the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling were visibly moving. Another stated that there was mild shaking of the floor and beds in Khaitan.  A resident of Kuwait City said the tremors lasted for 15-20 seconds, and was felt by the residents of the 7th floor office building on Gulf Road.

Tremors in Kuwait, which lasted for only a few seconds, were reported from various locations. The Kuwait Fire Services Directorate (KFSD) released a statement saying that no damage or casualties were reported, though it had received over 10 distress calls from people reporting they felt the tremor.
