Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority (EPA) said Sunday the dead fish recently detected along Al-Shuwaikh beach is attributable to negative impacts and pressures of recent rains on aquatic life.

EPA teams, who surveyed the coastline in Al-Shuwaikh area, have concluded that mismanagement of the runoffs of rain and sewage water resulted in excessive nutrients and chemical changes in the seawaters.

The teams also concluded that arbitrary fishing in the area and disposal of unwanted fish to the sea led to higher levels of toxicity and changes in the chemical, microbic and physical environment, EPA said in a statement tonight. This time of the year is the season of the migration for big size fish (locally known as Chem) from deep to shallow water to lay eggs and mate but the recent environment degeneration led to their kill, it added.
