Following the recent fire in Al-Rai area that razed several buildings, officials from the Environment Public Authority (EPA) inspected buildings in the area and issued 21 citations to various shops for violating engineering and other related regulations.

Director of Checking and Observation Department at EPA, Dr. Mishal Al-Ebraim said the campaign will continue over an indeterminate period to deal with environment related violations. He added that seven teams from EPA were engaged in verifying that properties in the area did not violate any environment regulations.

“We are preparing to write letters to the concerned authorities to withdraw licenses if those violations are repeated,” Al-Ebraim said. He warned that fines of up to KD5,000 will be imposed on violators based on the type of violation committed, starting with KD55 for improper disposal of waste, and going all the way up to KD5,000 for violating engineering regulations.
