Female lawyer accused of human trafficking

The Labor Relations Department of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) uncovered the lawyer’s malpractice when her employee filed a complaint with PAM alleging that he had paid KD1,000 to a representative of the lawyer in exchange for employment in her office.

Though eight months had elapsed since he started work, the lawyer did not stamp his visa and as he had become a residence law violator he had to pay a hefty fine to rectify his status. Moreover, although his contract stipulated a salary of KD250 per month, he was paid only KD150, and that too, inconsistently.

Following the complaint and a thorough investigation by PAM officials, the lawyer’s office has now been shut down.
