The Public Authority for Roads Transport (PART) had written to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for approval for contracts towards financing five projects for launch but was surprised when the Finance Ministry’s asked for a period of postponement for the start of those projects. The MoF declined to give the green light to five vital road projects – two of which are the first and second stages of the Salmi Road development – two projects for the development of the Seventh Ring Road, and the Al-Naeem Road project in Jahra, Al-Rai daily reported, quoting reliable MPW sources.

The Finance Ministry cited the need for “reducing the volume of spending on road projects during the current period and allocating part of the state budget for urgent projects of the Ministry of Health, Electricity and Water and oil projects that have priority over road projects during the current period,” as reasons for refusing to provide the approval for the request.

The daily said, quoting sources, pointed out that the refusal to approve those projects included in the ministry’s plan “would affect some other projects related to the development of the main roads, most notably the Al-Naeem Road project, since there is a plan to move poultry farms to that area, along with some residential city projects expected to be established to house expats.
