The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has announced that the fire that engulfed a Kerosene unit at the Mina Abdullah refinery earlier Tuesday were put out. In statements to KUNA, KPC chief Hashem Al-Hashem clarified that the fire broke out at 11:30 pm (local time) yesterday and it took firefighters about one and a quarter hours to extinguish the fire.

There are no human casualties and the situation is under control, he assured. He pointed out that once the fire is fully quenched, a committee would be formed to investigate the causes of the fire. On the continuation of work in the rest of the refinery units, Al-Hashem said that the rest of Mina Abdullah refinery units are functioning normally.

Moreover, he stated that the kerosene stock is sufficient for meeting domestic and export needs as well, until the operation of the kerosene unit was resumed. He expected that that cause of the fire could be a mechanical failure at one of the unit pumps.
