Firefighters suspicious of criminal activity behind the warehouse fire

The Kuwait Fire Department said on Thursday that there was a suspicion that it was criminal activity that was behind the huge fire that erupted earlier on Thursday at an electronics warehouse in Al-Rai area in Farwaniya Governorate, south of the capital.

The fire brigade said in a press release that the initial inspection by the fire investigation team revealed that the accident was “caused by a deliberate action”. The teams were still present at the site of the fire, which did not result in any casualties, for lifting samples including the residues of the fire to be studied in its analytical laboratory.

After the completion of all the investigation procedures as to the cause of the fire, which” caused significant material losses,” the technical report will be sent to the concerned authorities in the Ministry of Interior and the Public Prosecution, with the support of  evidence indicating criminal suspicion, said the press release.

According to a previous firefighting statement, the report said the fire spread to eight industrial plots of about 10,000 square meters, and firefighters had to exert intensive efforts to control it as the area lacked security and safety and was not organized. The fire broke out in buildings built of light building materials and there were collapses. This forced the firefighters from 9 centers across areas in Shuwaikh Industrial, Al-Ardiya, Al-Hilali, Musharraf, Al-Asnad, Al-Salmiya, Sabhan, Mina Abdullah and Al-Sulaibikhat to deal with the incident.
