GCC ministers approve Kuwaiti Al-Hajref bid for Secretary-General

Kuwaiti Nayef Al-Hajraf’s candidacy for Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General has been unanimously approved at ministerial talks ahead of the leaders’ summit in Riyadh, a Kuwaiti official said on Monday.

Al-Hajraf’s recommendation will be forwarded to the summit, scheduled on Tuesday, Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah told reporters. In relation to the meeting itself, the deputy minister said it was “positive and frank” as attending ministers saw eye-to-eye on several draft proposals that will also be presented to the leaders. Al-Jarallah was speaking to reporters in Kuwait during his attendance of a Qatar Embassy function held to celebrate the anniversary of the founder of Qatar Sheikh Jasim bin Thani’s accession to the throne.
